Connections is designed to bridge the gap between foundational music learning and more advanced ensemble playing.
Whether students are building confidence, exploring rhythm section roles, or diving into creative musicianship, Connections offers a path forward for every developing player.
Classes are rooted in the jazz tradition, with an emphasis on ear training, improvisation, rhythm, and learning music by ear and from lead sheets. Each course meets students where they are and provides a supportive, hands-on environment to grow musical skills, ensemble awareness, and creativity.
With multiple entry points and flexible progression, Connections is ideal for students with at least one year of experience on their instrument who are ready to take the next step in their musical journey.
CLASSES
Connections Prep
Connections Prep is a 10-week class for students who want to build confidence and proficiency in their skills before joining a Connections ensemble. Fall Quarter Only.
Connections Rhythm
Connections Rhythm is a 10-week class designed for students who want to build their skills and learn about the rhythm section of a jazz combo - traditionally drums, percussion, bass, guitar or piano - but all instruments are welcome!
Connections Ensemble
Connections Ensemble is for intermediate students who are proficient at their instruments and ready to improve their musicianship. This class is very hands-on, so students should be prepared to play and/or sing for every session.
This program is supported in part by a grant from The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, Inc.
