This class focuses on student improvisation and gig skills, like bandstand etiquette and how to call a tune. Young musicians don’t have to know how to improvise already, but should be ready to dive in! Teachers will use their extensive expertise and Real Books as course materials, and students will be broken into different groups to focus on specific skills at each rehearsal.

In addition to learning practical skills, once musicians have completed the fall class, they will be eligible to represent JazzED by playing paid gigs out in the community! Graduates of the Getting into Gigging course will be added to the roster of the JazzED Messengers and invited to perform at venues across the city.
