Who can participate in Seattle JazzED?

Any 4th through 12th grade student in Seattle and the surrounding region with a desire to learn and perform jazz music, regardless of current skill level or prior experience. Public, private and home school students are equally welcome.



What does it cost?

Tuition is $800 for a 25-week program. Installment plans are available, as are reduced fees and scholarships for qualified students.



How many bands are there?

There are six Ensembles: Introductory, Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced 1 & 2, and New Works. All students who audition will be admitted to the appropriate Ensemble for their skill level. No musical experience or audition is required for the Introductory Ensemble Class.



When does it start?

Auditions for Seattle JazzED will be held every year in September, with after-school rehearsal classes beginning in October. Each season will be approximately 25 weeks long.



Where will rehearsals be held?

Rehearsals are held primarily at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center in Columbia City, Seattle. The Advanced ensembles rehearse at Garfield High School in the Central District. The Introductory Ensemble Class rehearses at First AME Church on Capitol Hill. The New Works Ensemble rehearses at The Royal Room in Columbia City.



Who are the instructors?

Clarence Acox and Robert Knatt direct the Advanced Ensembles. Robert Knatt directs the Beginning and Intermediate Ensemble. Ray Baldwin directs the Introductory Ensemble Class. Wayne Horvitz directs the New Works Ensemble.



What if I don't have an instrument?

Seattle JazzED will enable qualified students to borrow quality instruments while they are participating in one of the Ensembles.
